On December 2nd, 2022, the Los Angeles City Council voted 12-0 to approve an ordinance that will prohibit new oil and gas extraction activities and phase out existing oil drilling citywide. This win would simply not have happened if it weren't for the advocacy by and for frontline communities for over a decade. The ordinance designates existing extraction activities a nonconforming land use in all zones of the city, becoming the largest city to do so.
